Coarse Islands are Betweenlands biomes characterized by large, steep islands with their shores rising a block above the surrounding Swamp Water, with some Weedwood and Sap Trees and several Giant Roots intertwining throughout the biome.
There is an additional variant, the Raised Isles, that can spawn independently of the normal variant and contains slightly different topography.

Raised Isles[]
The Raised Isles biome contains mostly the same terrain as the regular Coarse Islands biome, except that some of the Giant Roots reach much higher than usual and clusters of them may be holding up Raised Islands in the sky. These islands can contain some unique features, including Chiromaw Matriarch Nests inhabited by Chiromaw Matriarchs, and have unique ambience.

Both Coarse Islands and Raised Isles biomes consist of:
- Swamp Grass
- Swamp Dirt, directly under the surface
- Cragrock, in large patches (all variants)
- Mud, underwater
- Middle Gem Ores, rarely underwater
- Betweenstone Pebble, on land or underwater
- Weedwood Bush, in clusters
- Root, occasionally in clusters sticking out from the water
- Blue Iris
- Cattail
- Copper Iris
- Nettle, rarely
- Swamp Tallgrass, occasionally
- Volarpad
- Bladderwort, rarely sticking out from the water
- Swamp Kelp, underwater
- Swamp Reed, sticking out from the water
- Mire Coral, rarely underwater
- Swamp Water, as seas between islands and Giant Roots
- Menhir, rarely
Raised Isles biomes additionally consist of:
- Rootman Simulacrum, rarely on the Giant Roots holding up Raised Islands (all variants)
Mobs[]
The following mobs can spawn naturally on the surface in both Coarse Islands and Raised Isles biomes:
- Dragonfly
- Firefly, when the Rift event is active at night or inactive
- Gecko
- Frog
- Sporeling, only on Shelf Fungus
- Root Sprite, only on Giant Root blocks
- Anadia (purple), in water
- Greebling
- Greebling Rider, in the sky
- Lurker, in water
- Angler, in water
- Swamp Hag
- Wight
- Chiromaw
Structures[]
The following structures can generate in both Coarse Islands and Raised Isles biomes:
- Weedwood Tree, on land or partially submerged in the water
- Giant Weedwood Tree, very rarely
- Sap Tree, occasionally
- Giant Root, abundantly twisting through land and the water
- Cragrock Tower, rarely
Raised Isles biomes can additionally generate the following structures:
- Raised Island, occasionally, supported by clusters of Giant Roots
- Chiromaw Matriarch Nest, uncommonly on top of Raised Islands
